With such a rich history, Renfrew has stood the test of time

Renfrew (also known as Renfrew Heights) is a Vancouver neighbourhood that runs alongside Collingwood, offering a large all-inclusive Vancouver community on the east side of the city. It borders alongside Burnaby and runs from East 29th Avenue to East Hastings, and from Nanaimo Street to Boundary Road.

As one of the earliest areas of Vancouver to be developed, the diversity found here is recognizable in both the real estate options as well as the retail choices, making this convenient and bustling neighbourhood a favourite real estate investment opportunity for many.

The Livability of Renfrew

With Kingsway running alongside Renfrew, as well as Grandview Hwy in close proximity, this mainstream location is great for commuting into Vancouver or out to outlying destinations, shopping at Metrotown, or dining at one of the many ethnic and/or western cuisine locations surrounding the Renfrew district – such as Cactus Club or Browns, allowing for easy living within your own community.

The History of Renfrew

Colonel Richard Moody was the first to begin turning this area into an actual “area” back in 1861, building a military route through the First Nations trail leading from English Bay to New Westminster, claiming over a kilometer of land as his own.

However, the first real settler in the location was George Wales, who arrived in 1878, and by 1891 the Great Canadian Pacific Railway began to construct the community we see today, creating easy access for those looking build homes and businesses here.

The Future of Renfrew

With such a rich history, Renfrew has stood the test of time and remains a strong Vancouver community. Turning old into new, and bringing about a variety of lifestyle options to the many business professionals, families and singles alike who call Renfrew home.

If this area is of interest to you, I would be more than happy to show you around and introduce you to Renfrew – one of the original communities in the great city of Vancouver that you may just want to call home!
