Then, in 1869, Admiral George Fowler Hastings from the Royal Navy, made himself known by declaring this area as “The Hastings Townsite”, offering one of the first Vancouver locations with a roadway, hotel and post office. As well, homes in the area offered telephones and commute-friendly opportunities on the first ferry running from the Burrard Inlet to Victoria – all thanks to this Hastings Townsite.

Hastings also became a popular vacation destination, thought of as a beach resort due to its beachfront location, along with exciting entertainment like Hasting Racetrack and the PNE – which came about in 1910.
